Uviejitobor Receives FUPRE Award As He Delivers Lecture At 2nd Edition Of Postgraduate Lecture Series

The Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. (Chief) Peter Okagbare Uviejitobor, received Award of Appreciation, on August 24, 2026, as one of the guest speakers at the School of Postgraduate Studies, 2nd Edition of Annual Lecture Series of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta State.

This year lecture series had a theme: TRANSFORMING RESEARCH OUTCOMES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH. The Honourable Commissioner delivered lecture on a sub-theme: COLLABORATION WITH FUPRE ON THE PETROLEUM AND ENERGY SECTOR IN DELTA STATE.

The Commissioner emphasised that objectives of collaboration with FUPRE align remarkably well with the development priorities of Delta State and the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s led administration.

He added, “As we all know, Delta is one of Nigeria’s foremost oil and gas-producing states. Our communities host significant petroleum operations, while our people have lived with both the opportunities and the challenges associated with petroleum production for decades.

“We therefore have a responsibility to ensure that the petroleum resources in our subsurface translate into jobs, businesses, infrastructure, technological advancement, environmental sustainability and improved quality of life.

“Neither Government, nor Industry or the Universities can achieve this alone, But together, we can. This is the essence of the partnership that must exist between the Delta State Government and FUPRE”.

The Commissioner said that the greatest challenges as a country was not necessarily a shortage of intellectual capacity but the translation of knowledge into solutions.

He charged FUPRE to use the lecture series to craft a statement of problems that will drive a collaboration between the government of Delta State and the institution.

He highlighted areas for collaboration to include Oil and Gas, Production and Optimization, Data and Resource Management, Gas Development and Gas-based Industrialization, Refining and Downstream Development among others.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of Awards of Appreciation to guest speakers by the chief host, Prof. Ezekiel O. Agbalagba, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Delta State.
